1999-2001:   Researcher and policy advisor Department of Strategic and Future Studies of the Spatial Planning Agency (RPD) in The Hague.

2002-2010:   Senior- and coordinating researcher and sectoral director of Spatial Economics at the Netherlands Institute of Spatial Research (RPB) and the Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency (PBL) in The Hague.

2005-2019:    Professor of Urban Economics at Utrecht University. Embedded in the Urban and Regional Research Centre Utrecht (URU) and the NETHUR research school.
